Status buttons?

To my delight, some participants have linked to the marathon on their collective to declare what they're up to. In one case, that has even directly led to a sign-up! (Thanks, ichiharas!)

That got me thinking: In the fansite sphere, event buttons such as the ones currently up on the site are typically uploaded as a badge of honour after submitting your site, to show that you participated in an event (which may even have inspired the site/design in the first place) and made it to the finish line, and to direct visitors to fellow event creations. Naturally, such buttons can just as well be used to inform about your current activity (and to advertise the event), as in the case mentioned above… But what if we had fun lil graphics specifically for that?

I don't know about the future, but it so happens that there are Neo-Queen Serenity sprites (from the game Sailor Moon: Another Story!) that would make nice status buttons for the current event. :D I think it unlikely that I'll have time to make pixel buttons, blinkies etc., but I'm posting the sprites here in case anyone would like to make some. They could say something like: current status: our kingdoms eternal marathon.



The sprites are from The Spriters Resource if you need the original files or want to browse other elements. Any status buttons without Sailor Moon theme are most welcome too!

If you make any buttons and share them here, I'll upload them to the event site – and the more, the merrier. :) That aside, I'd love to hear if there's any interest in such buttons in general (namely for future shrine events).

I had never thought of that! That's a cute idea! And useful! To advertise what's going on and give a boost to the event while it's going on! Yes!

I'm not the kind of person for premade buttons * but this gives me the idea of making a "sticker" overlay like roadwork information, I mean in pure CSS... let me think a moment of how I can make it silly...

* or at least, not these right now. They're cute, and I do love Sailor Moon. But I'm about to revamp my domain with a dark baroque painting of a naked man from horror FPS series Quake showing his enormous crotch. PERHAPS NOT THE CORRECT VIBE... shield Usagi's innocent eyes...

You are totally welcome to make a horny dark baroque button if you feel like it, no Sailor Moon sprite (that's just a suggestion), and I would post it on my gentle innocent soft pastel event site! (Will edit the post to make it clearer, thank you.) I've seen and have been on the receiving end of button donations for stuff like cliques and directories (and fanlistings) and I love that those donations are sometimes motivated by "I wanted something to match my site in style/colour/size etc. so I made some buttons for myself, here u can have them so others can use them too".

If you make your idea happen, I'm curious to see.

Ah, not an actual image button, I ended up making an obnoxious CSS "sticker" specifically so it looks like it was pasted on top, beautifully stupid



...I guess it could be genericized and edited for other people's purposes but I doubt anyone else wants anything this stupid and ugly XD

(speaking of ugly, I do wish the text could be less jaggy in Firefox but I can't find a solution, it's something about transform: rotate, if anybody knows a fix please tell me)

I just read your post and was wondering what kind of buttons you have in mind. I can definitely animate some, although nothing too fancy, more simple animations than anything overly complex. What exactly are you looking for? Do you happen to have an example of the style you're after?

Also, I think Aelyn or Rin are probably absolute masters at that :D
